Week one went as many expected, as the number one team in the nation St. John Bosco Braves came from California for the Hurricanes home opener, the Braves ultimately won in a 31-0 final score, in a game that was called at halftime.
The team was able to bounce back and get a much needed 42-14 win against Southeast, where sophomore defensive back Jared Sanders reeled in two of the three interceptions thrown in that contest. The offense also thrived in this game, as they totaled for a season high of 372 yards
The Hurricanes faced some adversity, losing back to back games to drop to 1-3 on the season. The team was outscored 72-20 in two games that included a 42-7 loss on the road at Lowndes High School, and a 30-13 loss at home against Buchholz High School. The Hurricanes were very well battle tested in the first half of the season and hoped these losses would build character rather than tear it down.
Those losses did just that, as the Canes looked dominant in their next two games, completely flipping the script on the season so far. “The Stable” that looked lethal from the start of the season showed out in back to back wins against IMG Academy Junior National and Pinellas Park, averaging 212.5 rushing yards through two games and 6 touchdowns through those two games.
The Hurricanes defeated the IMG Ascenders in a 31-14 showing, where the offense and defense both had a dominant game. Davion Bryant accumulated a team high 8 tackles, that included 2 sacks and 4 tackles for loss. Caedon White also posted a season high 121 rushing yards on 11 carries that also included two touchdowns.
Momentum was at an all time high, as the team followed the dominant win with another outstanding 42-7 win against the Pinellas Park Patriots in their first district game. Logan Rogers showed out in this game with 151 passing yards on a 76.9% completion percentage. Ronin Dangler continued his dominance in this game with 6 tackles and a fumble recovery forced by Storm Hense. Ballhawk Jared Sanders also reeled in his fourth interception in a a phenomenal showing.
All hype built from the past two weeks had seemed to die down when they traveled to Columbia High School, where the Hurricanes got shutout 35-0 by the Tigers. Thankfully, the Canes had a bye week directly after this loss, allowing for time to regroup and be ready for the Palmetto Tigers.
The Hurricanes have showed flashes of greatness throughout the season, and hope to build on those moments of success as they face their rivals on the road this friday.
