During fundraising, creativity is key; that is why the Sugarcanes bring in the senior boys to become a Mr. Sugarcane. Every year, the Manatee High Sugarcanes recruit senior boys to put on an entertaining show to raise money for the next year. They raise the money for the next school year, so they can go to competitions, and buy costumes, bags, pompoms, and many other things. The Sugarcanes teach these boys their dances, so that way they can raise money in an entertaining way.
Dancing Queens
To be a Mr. Sugarcane, the seniors must be able to learn a dance. Each recruit must also be able to pick up on the dance moves. The dances are very entertaining and fun to watch and the boys also have fun performing them. “I had more fun than I expected” says football player Logan Rodgers. When speaking to the Mr. Sugarcanes, the majority of them said they had more fun than they thought they would. “The dances were fun and exciting.” Donta Prince said.
Not for the Fame
Most people typically think that the nominees participate for the popularity that could come with it. Most of them said they did it to support the girls because they always support them. “They support us, so we need to help support them.” says Rogers. People think that the boys do Mr Sugarcanes for the attention and to make sure that people like them.
